A farmer from Pune has claimed that he earned only Rs. 1 from the sale of nearly a tonne of onions at the district Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC).
48-year-old Devidas Parbhane, who is the sole bread earner of his family of five, said he has two acres of land and he spent Rs. 80,000 to grow onions but earned only Rs. 1. There were no comments on the farmer’s claim from APMC. Local media reports quoted the trader who bought the onion as saying that the produce was of inferior quality.
Meanwhile, a delegation of onion traders and APMC members from Lasalgaon in Nashik met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking his intervention on the issue of plummeting prices of onions.
