While Indian contingent at Olympics has so far not able to register even a single medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Sports Minister Vijay Goel has further pinched the wounds by exercising his power through ‘unaccepted’ behaviors.
Following the path set by selfie maniac Prime Minister Modi, the sports minister seems to be engaged in having a bountiful of selfies with Indian athletes who are visibly tired in the pictures. It was when the Sports Minister tried to exercise his influence even further then the Rio panel expressed their condemnation.
The organizers of the prestigious event were pushed to the corner and they were force to make a threat to the extent of cancelling Goel’s accreditation. The cancellation will result in the termination of special pass provide to the minister.
The panel alleged that Goel, along with some of his associates, had tried to enter areas which were off bounds. It also said that the minister and his company were rude to the officials.
“We have had multiple reports of your Minister for Sports trying to enter accredited areas at venues with unaccredited individuals. When the staff tried to explain that this is not allowed, they reported that the people with the Minister have become aggressive and rude and sometimes pushed past our staff,” Sarah Peterson, continental manager of Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, said.
“As you can understand, this type of behavior is not acceptable. Despite previous warnings, it would seem that even today the same incident occurred at the Rio Olympic Arena (Gymnastics venue) and Carioca Arena 3,” added the official.
But despite the stinging accusation, Goel, however, denied any involvement in miffs with the organizers.
