Belarus, a country ruled by Europe’s last dictator where dissent is often brutally crushed, people are having the last laugh by posting naked pictures of themselves at work in a send-up of their authoritarian president’s latest diktat.
The dictator premier of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko urged his citizens “to get undressed and work till you sweat” to take the country out of the economic doldrums.
Frustrated with the constrained life situations, some workers decided to take his call literally and started posing naked at work for pictures they then posted on social media.
The trend has been taken up elsewhere with social media users in Ukraine, Russia and the Baltic States posting similar images in solidarity with their Belarusian neighbours.
It has proved even in the scenario of controlled media curbing the free speech, social media users can find a way to express themselves.
