Honor Killing, Dalit boy allegedly murdered by lover’s family

In a suspected case of honor killing in Navi Mumbai, a 16-year-old dalit boy was allegedly killed by family members of an upper caste girl with whom he was in love.

Swapnil Sonawane was killed because the girl’s family did not approve of him as he belonged to a different caste. The girl said be from OBC Agri community. Sources claimed that Sonawane received a call from the girl’s brother to meet at the building gate with his phone and pen-drive. When Swapnil went downstairs, some boys put him in an auto-rickshaw and beat him up.

Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the case and the 17-year-old girl has also been detained.
